Drumcastle in Schaumburg
Drumcastle is one of Schaumburg's most storied single-family home communities, tucked south of Weathersfield Way and west of Salem Drive in Schaumburg, Illinois. Built between 1967 and 1968 by Kaufman and Broad Homes, the nationally recognized builder known today as KB Home, Drumcastle arrived at a pivotal moment when Schaumburg was transforming from a quiet township into one of the most exciting suburban destinations in the Chicago area. It was one of the early single-family neighborhoods to take shape outside of the original Weathersfield development, and it quickly made a name for itself as a community that offered serious value, serious space, and a sense of permanence that buyers responded to immediately.
In fact, the name itself was chosen with that spirit in mind. According to local history records, the Drumcastle subdivision was given its name because it had a sturdy, masculine sound which implied permanency and security, a fitting identity for a neighborhood built to last. And last it has. Original advertising from the era touted 3, 4, and 5-bedroom models on generously sized lots, with features including king-sized fireplaces and central air conditioning, a genuinely impressive package for the late 1960s, when such amenities were far from standard in suburban home construction. Kaufman and Broad built Drumcastle with families firmly in mind, offering enough room to grow both inside the home and out on lots that gave residents real yard space, a luxury that made these properties stand apart from the more compact offerings of the era.
Drumcastle's location on Schaumburg's east side has only grown more valuable with time. The community sits close to Interstate 90, putting O'Hare International Airport, downtown Chicago, and the broader expressway network within easy reach. Nearby amenities include baseball diamonds, basketball courts, biking and hiking paths, picnic areas, playgrounds, a swimming pool, and tennis courts, a recreational lineup that reflects the Schaumburg Park District's long-standing commitment to quality of life throughout the village. And of course, Woodfield Mall, one of the largest and most iconic shopping destinations in the Midwest, is just minutes away, alongside the full range of restaurants, retailers, and entertainment options that have defined Schaumburg as a premier suburban destination for decades.
Drumcastle is more than just a neighborhood, it is a piece of Schaumburg's foundation, a community that has weathered the decades with its character, its tree-lined streets, and its pride of ownership very much intact.
