This planned community sits on a 92-acre site and features 1st floor, 2nd floor and 2 story townhomes with 2-3 bedrooms and attached garages.
This was a $61 million development built in the mid-1970s by Dunbar Corporation which was responsible for building Chicago’s first condominium in 1962. The completion of the Dunbar Lakes project provided 1,716 townhomes and villas and was considered at the time to be the firm’s largest suburban development. It also features amenities such as a lake, clubhouse, pool, and tennis court. This development even received the Northern Illinois Gas Company’s Energy Conservation Award for their voluntary use of energy conservation during the construction of their homes.
Dunbar originally proposed the construction of 1,900 units in a planned unit development which included a mixture of townhouses, condominiums and five 16-story buildings. This caused concern over the possible negative effects the high-rise buildings might have on the natural land in the area and community at the time. Due to these types of concerns the plans were modified.
This subdivision was incredibly favorable due to its prime location, home designs and amenities. They even had a sales information center inside of a unique oblong shaped structure that was referred to as the “Space Lab”. Because of its appearance it drew a lot of attention. The “Space Lab” was designed by Larry Klein and Associates. It was created to reflect the open space concept what was featured in the Dunbar Lake homes. In the summer of June of 1975, Dunbar Lakes had a grand opening celebration for their clubhouse. This event included a big picnic lunch, hot air balloon rides, boat races and tennis tournaments. There was even a garden expert on hand to assist the residents with any inquiries they had in regards to their landscaping.
Dunbar Lakes was and continues to be in a prime location. It is only a few minutes away from all that Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates have to offer including the popular Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg Golf Club, Spring Valley Nature Center, and the highly rated Conant High School.

Gatewood gained popularity due to the Lexington Homes reputation and most importantly its location. Lexington Homes was an innovative company. They developed and installed a computerized program called The Payment Estimate Model at each of their Chicagoland communities. It was designed to alleviate the difficulty, stress and anxiety that home buying can cause. It took the mystery out of mortgage payments by breaking down the customer's selected homes and offered a systematic way to review a potential buyer's finances. The program allowed the prospective buyer to compare payments under several possible mortgages, established the amount of down payment needed for a particular mortgage, examined after tax benefits of home ownership and even pre-qualified people for a mortgage, all in a matter of minutes.

Kingsport Terrace is a neighborhood in Schaumburg north of Weathersfield Way and west of Roselle Road. Buyers were able to semi-customize by adding fireplaces, moving walls, and including some of their personalized touches to the homes. It was a popular neighborhood for young growing families in search of upscale living.
Meister-Neiberg again chose a great location to build Kingsport Terrace just like they did with their other projects. Kingsport Village
Kingsport Village, is located east of Roselle Road and has 3 different sections that are all relatively close to one another. Meister-Neiberg, the developer, bought their first piece of land and began building 174 mid-sized to large single family homes on 37-acres. This development was so successful that they ended up buying more land in Schaumburg and quickly began developing other projects in the same area and in neighboring towns, all bearing the connection to the name Kingsport for branding purposes.
Approval was granted in the mid-1970s for this subdivision after builders abandoned earlier plans that would have allowed 710 units including 290 townhouses and 420 condominium apartments in 5 and 6-story buildings.

The original proposal from developers was $10 million and included 62 single family homes, 32 townhouses and 288 apartments in 4 six story buildings. However, the proposal was rejected by the Village Board. Many of the residents nearby voiced their concerns on the traffic congestion they felt the development would bring. Schaumburg had already become an attractive location and this area became the focus to create a thriving community consisting of family building and living. Buyers and visitors originally completed surveys which also indicated community schools and recreational options were major factors in choosing this area. By the fall of 1967 Lancer Park was already taking shape and gaining a lot of attention because of its location, gentle hills, rolling terrain and the anticipation for growth. Throughout the years the Lancer Park subdivision would reap the benefits of a fast paced growing Schaumburg which brought in many new opportunities nearby.
