Green Meadows
Green Meadows is a single-family home subdivision in Streamwood that was built in the 1960s and 1970s by Dato Construction. It is located south of Bode Road, west of Barrington Road and north of Schaumburg Road. Home styles include a 1 1/2 story Colonial, 4 large split foyer models, a contemporary ranch and a tri-level. This neighborhood was constructed in half the time it takes to build a home with ordinary methods. New techniques that cut home building costs were applied. Home sections were shipped to each home site and permanently assembled by highly trained crews. By using this method, 14 men were able to put up 8 homes in one day. The quality was considered higher as well because each home section, trusses, sidewalls and other components were all pre-engineered and constructed ahead of time at a different location. So higher quality control standards were applied to each model. Edwin Dato, the firm's president, even had a public demonstration of how these homes were being built to prove that modular construction was more efficient, practical and provided higher quality. This subdivision is also bordered by a 600-acre forest preserve to the north that offers a lot to do.
